(Disclaimer: This is from a non-techie's point of view, and so it's strictly based on my own opinions and usage. :D)

I've been a loyal iPhone user for many years and while it has its share of problems (like the battery life wtf), I'm mostly quite satisfied and I've been looking forward to the new iPhone 6. But after watching the Samsung GALAXY Note 4 announcement, my heart wavered... by more than a little. D:

Certain Note 4 functions will turn out pretty essential to my lifestyle.

The #Wefie function
I don't take #wefies very often but the panorama front-facing camera is a great function to have, as I'm also able to take photos of my surroundings. :D I mean, you can't see shit from any of our couple selfies overseas because there's no bloody scenery behind. Our faces are too big.

Noise Cancellation
Okay, I have plans to write more professionally in the not-too-far future and I foresee myself using the voice recording function pretty often. There's the dedicated mic thingy too, so it's useful if I'm interviewing a few parties at once. Actually, this is a good function for secretaries too because I know that transcribing minutes is a pain in the ass.

Note-taking
Eh this is not a new thing, but it's good to have if I'm switching over from the iPhone. I like to make lists a lot, though I don't really follow them. :D And I like to jot down ideas!

I know there's some hype over the AMOLED screen and such but to me it just means having a prettier screen to surf net and WhatsApp with lol. I don't even play games. I wouldn't even consider the EDGE version, because I don't really see the point.

I'll wait for my hands-on experience before reaching a decision because the Note 3's camera is amazingly slow and awkward in terms of photo-taking. Maybe I don't have very steady hands, but iPhone 5's camera focusing felt a million times faster. Hopefully the Note 4 has a faster camera... :|

I didn't manage to watch the iPhone 6 and 6 plus announcement last night because I was too sleepy... but it was a good thing, according to the husband, because the streaming was super whacked. Anyways, the first thing I did when I woke up was to check the news about the launch.

The rumours have been going around for the longest time that Apple is going to come up with iPhones that have bigger screens so no surprise there. Otherwise, no major upgrades? I mean, having a better camera (iSight - cute and slightly cheesy pun lol), display, etc. is all good, but how about wireless charging? :| So disappointed.

Apple Watch

Apple has always been the one to introduce a new product category into the market, but it has lagged behind its competitors by a mile. But Apple being Apple, I was looking forward to them being able to at least refresh the category as smart watches are not yet seen as a commodity.

From a marketing point of view, they did well with their mysterious-ish media invite and news (or rumours?) that they've also invited fashion editors.

Wish you HAD said more.
In my naivety, I was expecting something like a Apple x Stella McCartney or Apple x Marc Jacobs collaboration (I still think it's a good idea!) but noooo. The design was okay-nice (I do like the gold edition), but my first reaction was 'meh' as I had really high expectations for this product since they've been dragging their smart watch launch for the longest time.

I wouldn't mind paying the premium price of 400 bucks+ SGD if it's a Marc Jacobs collaboration, but just for this? Hmm maybe not. The Apple Watch OS interface is not my cup of tea either... Like there're way too many things going on and many functions that will turn out to be a herd of white elephants.

These functions will do (for me, at least):
  • A chio watch interface
  • Ability to call and answer calls with the watch, James Bond-style.
  • Facetime!
  • GPS/Google Maps function
  • Weather
  • Alarm function
  • Sending commands via Siri to my iPhone
That's about it - I'm a really simple person. Everything else is redundant to me. And oh, it would be cool if there's wireless charging too because I don't want to charge so many damn devices.

Conclusion

I miss Steve Jobs. D: With so much hype and anticipation over this event, it's like the hooha had been for nothing.

There's still a 50-50 chance I'll get iPhone 6 plus though, because it will take a lot to get me out of my comfort zone and I have a lot of paid apps and cloud storage stuff that I'm too lazy to transfer over.

Don't roll eyes at me ok. I'm just a fickle-minded woman who does not know better.
A lady puked on me today, on the MRT on the way to work. She erupted Merlion-style without warning... >_< Okay, somehow my reflexes were astonishingly fast enough to siam the worst of the episode, but... let's just say I'll have to throw away my shoes. I can still smell a little of the puke now. -_- Sigh. After I stood up, the lady next to me gave up her seat, and I was thinking "uhhhhh I don't wanna sit near the foul-smelling puke!" but I took the seat anyway... not nice to reject people's kind gestures, yes? :/

Back to the puking woman. I suspected she's probably also pregnant and in her first trimester where morning sickness is the worst. While I was lucky enough not to have morning sickness during mine, it was really tiresome to take public transport... The headaches/giddiness and crazy fatigue! I'm probably even more fit to take the MRT now, as compared to the first trimester. ._.

SMRT implemented Care Stickers last month, which is kind of redundant actually (I mean, you don't need a sticker to see if someone is handicapped or elderly right?)... but it could be useful for pregnant women in the first trimester who really, really need the extra care.

Don't be paiseh, just take!
It's kind of embarrassing in the beginning to ask for seats especially when you don't look pregnant, but the situation should be a lot better if you wear this sticker or even a DIY "Pregnant" badge. Sometimes, there're still good Samaritans who will help you ask for seats! :)

In other news, I'm 29 weeks preggers today! One more week to the Big 3. Baby is moving alot more violently nowadays... He almost stuck a hand out to give his daddy a high five last night, omg! ._.

Success isn't the thing that defines a person at the end of his/her life. The journey does. A person may obtain everything he/she wants in Life, but I guess... it's the people you've met, the experiences you've gotten and the lessons you've learnt that truly matter.

Perhaps I've been slower at my self-discovery journey and finding my purpose than most of my peers... Perhaps they have not even thought that much about their purpose and find themselves trodding on the so-called 'correct' paths. I do understand that everyone has their own set of problems... it's just that I always seem to feel lost and confused, and tend to envy people who knows what the hell they want to do with themselves. :P

Like the quote says, the 'best things' might take a while... but as long as I believe and work harder for what I believe in... I'm sure this day will come.

FIGHTING.

It's time for lunch.
『感恩』

This is something I live with nowadays.

Times are hard, but not as hard as others. Skies are grey, but not without the occasional golden peaks of the sun. I have nothing, yet I have everything.

I am thankful for all the goodness in my life. It's far from perfect, and the road ahead is still a pretty rocky path but I know that I'm never really alone. I am thankful for the husband, my parents, my friends. I am thankful that I am able to wake up every morning. I am thankful for my fairly good health. I am thankful for having a roof over my head. I am thankful for the water and the food in front of me. I am thankful that I am loved.

Times are hard, but not as hard as others. Because I have people and things in life to feel thankful about, I have the strength to carry on.

感恩。
Reaaaaaaaaaaally alot of stuff to blog about, our Bali trip for starters. And then I just received my wedding AD photos for sharing too. Plus my home renovation status. Busy busy... I don't know where to start. ._. Feeling miserable at work prompted me to log onto Blogger dot com, so I'll just do a text-based, long-winded whine post.

Renovation is really a soul-suckling process where you have to keep forking out shitloads of money (alot more than the wedding) and don't even feel half-satisfied. Okay maybe that's because we're still a distance away from completion... and/or I'm too perfectionist for my own good. I need to learn how to let go/be more easy-going. It's tough to be easy-going when you're spending tens of thousands, sigh.

Plus I can't find my perfect coffee table and TV console... okay, I did it again. *breathes*

Work sucks. But that's the usual. I'm a miserable-forever employee. Hopefully my plans take off smoothly in the not-too-far future and then... I can finally be self-employed. :D

I don't know if it's the after-effect of holiday blues, but somehow I don't seem to spend enough time with the husband. :( It's rather depressing, but oh well. We need a reaaaaaaaaally long holiday... earliest also must wait until year end/early Jan bah.
Happy Chinese New Year from Mr & Mrs Chew!

This is our first year as a married couple, so I felt kinda excited. I can't say the same for the husband though, who had flown off to Yogjakarta and started work on 初二... poor thing hadn't slept much these few days too. :( But he's back today!

I can't help but feel that CNY is different for singles and marrieds.

Singles: YAY GOT ANGPAO! HUAT AH!
Marrieds: OMG SO MANY ANGPAOS TO GIVE *packs APs furiously on CNY eve*

Singles: Kanna asked "Eh, when getting married ah?" or "Got boyfwen anot? Want auntie to intro?"
Marrieds: Kanna asked "Eh, when having kids ah? Must fast fast give birth..."

Singles: Happily eat tidbits and soft drinks after 拜年 with two orlengs + receive angpao!
Marrieds: *kanna attacked by kids-tsunami during 拜年* D:

Singles: Shopping happily for shitloads of new clothes, bags, underwear, etc...
Marrieds: Queuing unhappily along the Great Wall of China line to change new notes at the bank. Oh, must remember to get the free angpao packets too! Maybe can "bank-hop" to get a few designs...

Not that it's a bad thing, just a major and inevitable shift in lifestyle which makes me rather amused.

It feels like my whole CNY revolved around whether I'll have a kid by the next CNY, which I didn't mind because it's good that people are excited, lol. But someone also asked about my contraception method (in front of my parents), and I was like... o_O;; okay, super awkward moment.

Anyways, also planned a little surprise for the husband this weekend for our post-Vday celebration. Hopefully it's delightful!
EVERYTHING has been going wrong for the past week. I'm vexed.

Work is already soul-stabbing, and then I still have to deal with so much shit. Sigh.
  1. SP Services: The husband went to our house yesterday and the maintenance guy only turned on the gas. He called the husband, who would be reaching the house in 10 minutes and said so, and said that he will wait. In the end, he didn't. Re-scheduled again this morning and everything's switched on now.

  2. Keys confusion when my ID wanted to go take measurements. I'm too lazy to explain but my absent-mindedness had almost cost me - because I ended up having more downlights than I remember and almost bought extra lights.

  3. Our laminates cannot work in our current situation because of the stupid bomb shelter door. Still trying to solve this somehow - FML!!! LE SIGH times infinity. Trying to work out a solution now.
I have been rather bitchy recently, I know, but I really have no other venue to channel my angst.

So many unforeseen circumstances when renovation barely even started! :( Sigh. Hopefully everything will be smooth from now on.

Anyways. Hacking for the toilets and kitchen has already started, from 5th to 7th Feb. Oh, and we received our first conservancy charges bill from West Coast Town Council. $50+ per month. I haven't even started staying there yet, zzz.
It's like I'm feeling so burnt out but there's no outlet. I do talk about my stress and issues to the husband and friends but... there's just no outlet to release the steam. I don't have hobbies to take my mind off things nor can I afford a vacation right now, having to spend money on renovation and all. I heard doing sports might work, but I'm too tired for that already.

I don't know what to do . There's only fatigue and frustration now... So maxed out.

I'm still waiting for a ray of light in the darkness, and words to tell me that everything's going to be better.
First post using iPhone client! Good to have, since I can't blog openly in the office.

Sometimes I feel alone, like I don't seem to belong anywhere. The problem is probably largely with me... After having a heart-to-heart talk with the husband, I realized that it's probably because I am never really a marketing/communications person in the first place. There's a difference between knowing how to do something and loving the thing that I do.

Then what? I thought. I want to move on but I have no inkling about what I want. I'm too old for an identity crisis... This life-long search to find my niche in the society is becoming such a drag. I'm too tired to ponder, too tired to grab opportunities with fear of the future. I'm too jaded to even believe in a better future, actually.

I guess it's back to the drawing board again, continuing another story that will never end.
Mirror mirror on the wall, whose nose is shiniest of 'em all!
My life is generally mundane and uneventful (which is a good thing, actually! *PEACE*), but I'll have to say that 2012 is probably the most remarkable year I ever had. As the year is coming to a close, I'm thanking my  lucky stars that 2012 went well. :)

On 24th March 2012, we got married (legally) and did our solemnisation ceremony at TAB under the witness of many loved ones. On 2nd April 2012, we took our first couple trip together to Taiwan. :) On 23rd May 2012, we marked our 10th year together. During September 2012, we went house shopping and bought our very own 5-room HDB resale flat. And of course, on 15th December 2012, we officially tied the knot, went through all that Chinese traditional marriage shiznit and held our wedding dinners at M hotel/Intercontinental hotel. :)

Next year, I will be happily settling into my new status, doing up my love nest, and doing alot more planning. More and more changes are beckoning, and it will get alot tougher from now on, but I'm not afraid as I have my husband supporting me at every step of the way. I WILL SURVIVE!!! *screams*

Every year, I draw up a set of resolutions that I mostly don't fulfill (don't we all!), but this time it'll be different! I'm trying to be a little more realistic. XP
  1. LOSE WEIGHT (because I can't gain anymore D:)
  2. Move into my new house before June!
  3. Get a cat. :D
  4. Go for my honeymoon (godknowswhere yet.)
  5. Go Hongkong (sometime, anytime)
  6. Learn how to cook more stuff!
  7. Learn how to do housework... D:
  8. Be a supportive, fantastic wife.
  9. Be a better friend! (because I know I'm not)
  10. Secret.
  11. Secret.
  12. Secret.
The ones 'Secret' will be "unlocked" when things actually get moving. I'm too shy to say what.

Anyways.

Wishing everyone a lovely year ahead! The world didn't end, and that's a pretty good start.

2013 is going to be one of the most climatic years of my life. For one thing, I'm moving on to the next phase in life of being a married woman. I'll give my CNY angpaos for the first time (OH NOOOOO!!!), renovate and move into the first house I own in this lifetime, and take on all the additional responsibilities of being a wife.

Marriage is, as expected, not romantic - more like a partnership, or merger of two organizations (or families, in this case). I will need to learn how to cook (though I've cooked before, like a million years ago), how to do household chores, and be less stubborn or 'xiao jie'. It's inevitably tough, like being stabbed in the eye every time I hear of yet another expectation of me, but like I said... it's inevitable, because I really want to be a good wife to my man. I'm not perfect (far from it) but at least I want to do my best.

Next year will be tough. The husband will be overseas very often at least for the first half of the year due to work, so I might have to oversee the house renovation on my own. The next thing I need to do is get a driving license, at the ripe old age of 27 going 28, by next year... realized that I am actually quite handicapped without one.

I've given some serious thought to my future as well. What do I see myself doing after five years, and after ten years? Actually I've come to terms with the fact that it's more practical to earn money to invest in your passion than to work for passion - when it comes to the time you need to feed and be fed, life's a different story altogether. Everything's about money these days... houses, cars, education; everything is expensive and you'll have to compromise just because. I guess I'll take some kind of action next year.

Change is scary, but most likely the only way to soar higher. We'll see.
A death happened last Thursday... It was so abrupt, and he was way too young for this. It's too heart-wrenching to elaborate further, so I won't. Life is really too fragile, and most of the time way too short. It is so, so important to treasure the people around you... your friends, your family. Regret is too late once a soul of a loved one goes to heaven.
